Mauro Frate _ Architect


Born in Venice in 1962, he received, with honors, degree in Architecture at IUAV of Venice (1989), where since then he conducts teaching and research. In 2008 he was given a teaching contract in architectural composition at the degree course in Architecture for Sustainability. He has held conferences and seminars and participates in juries of architectural competitions both in Italy and abroad. He has participated in several university research including: “Studi per il progetto architettonico del sistema universitario a Venezia e Mestre”, 1994; “Venezia città degli studi”, 1995; “Studi per il piano strutturale di Cesena: progetto per l’area Barriera Secante”, 1998; “Venezia: infrastrutture e città metropolitana”, 2000; “Progetti per Sarajevo”, 2002. He was a member of the scientific and technical committee of Chi-Quadrato, research on sustainable learning spaces (Trento 2010-12). His work has been shown in several exhibitions including at the Biennale di Venezia, International Architecture Exhibition, “Next new School Entrances”, 2002; at the “Segunda Bienal de Canarias, Arquitectura y Paisaje Art” in Gran Canarias - Las Palmas, 2009.
In the years he designed and built some public, residential and commercial buildings, a series of projects of public spaces, master plans for agricultural, industrial and historical areas and has participated in numerous national and international competitions, even on invitation. In 1996 he founded Architer (with C. Magnani, P. Vincenti and D. Paccone); among the main projects: the detailed plan for the old town of Citadella; the variant of the general PRG of the municipality of Due Carrare; The Detailed Plan for the old town of Montebelluna (TV), the project for the new headquarters of the Museo di Arte Orientale in Venice. With Architer won, among others, the competition for the contract of the “Piano di Recupero” for via dello Stadio a Conegliano; the competition for a public housing area in Montebelluna; the competition for the aggreement for a housing building for the “Contratto di quartiere” of Mestre-Altobello, the competition for the new school at Noventa Padovana; the competition for the new nursery school at Prato-Ponzano; the competition for the redevelopment of the nursery school “Il Girotondo” at Terni.
Since 2009 he works in MFa_Mauro Frate architects. Among the most recent works of the office, are mentioned the built project of the school campus “Anna Frank” at Noventa Padovana, the Day centre for the Elderly in Mirandola, Housing nuclei for low care for the elderly at Medolla, Mirandola and San Felice. He was awarded the prize Ecoluogo 2011 by the Ministry of the Environment for the project Rururban Sustainable Network.
The activities design, teaching and research is documented in specialized publications and in Italian and foreign magazines, as well as from participation to exhibitions, conferences and lectures.
